Renewable Resources: naturally replenished resources

  • Plant and animal products such as wood, cotton, wool
  • Inexhaustible forms of energy such as solar, wind, hydro, and geothermal
  • Biofuels such as corn or sugar derived ethanol or soy diesel

Nonrenewable Resources: resources that do not renew themselves; or resources that naturally renew extremely slowly compared to human time scales

  • Metals / minerals / ores (aluminum, copper, iron, platinum, etc)
  • Radioactive materials such as uranium fuel for nuclear power plants
  • Petroleum (oil, coal, natural gas)
  • Helium
